Crocoite is a lead chromate (PbCrO4). Its crystal system is monoclinic and it usually occurs as elongate prismatic to fibrous crystals in strikingly orange to red colours. It is sometimes used in paints, being identical in composition to the artificial product chrome yellow. It is the only chromate of any importance found in nature. This specimen is from Dundas in Tasmania, Australis, actual width 95 mm.
