Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of of a 66 year old patient with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer can develop when the cells in the prostate start to divide and multiply in an uncontrolled manner. Prostate cancer often starts slowly and may never cause problems but some men have prostate cancer that is more likely to spread and is therefore more problematic. The scan shows bright areas of periprostatic fat. Patients with higher levels of periprostatic fat are at higher risk of developing more aggressive cancer.
