Conceptual illustration of the Rosalind Franklin rover, also known as the ExoMars rover, on the Martian surface drilling to extract rock samples to continue the search for evidence of life on Mars. The rover is scheduled to launch in September 2022. The rover will have solar panels to provide power, and the camera (on mast) and other sensors provide other data and images. A surface platform will be used to land and deploy the rover, and carry out other science objectives. Results will be relayed back to Earth by the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) that reached Mars orbit in 2016. The ExoMars missions are jointly carried out by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Russia's space agency (Roscosmos).
