Light micrograph showing cross-sectioned skeletal muscle fibres stained with Mallory?檚 phosphotungstic acid haematoxylin (PTAH). Each muscle fibre shows a small bluish dotting that fills the cytoplasm. They correspond to myofibrils that are so numerous that they reject the nuclei to the periphery. Note that not all muscle fibres are the same, there are large ones along with smaller fibres. Between the muscle fibres there is a narrow connective space corresponding to the endomysium.
