Virtual reality. A NASA researcher seen wearing a full set of Virtual Reality (VR) equipment. VR allows the user to become immersed in a computer- generated environment. The headset contains a pair of small TV screens giving stereo vision. A motion detector in the headset determines the direction in which the user is looking; the visual display is adjusted accordingly so that the user has 'all- round' vision. The datagloves allow the user to grasp objects in the simulation, replacing the traditional keyboard or mouse for selecting various options and allowing movement through the computer environment.
