New Guinea islanders, 18th century. Historical illustration of a scene from a book about the voyages of James Cook, which took place between 1768 and 1780. This scene shows people from New Guinea in what is described as 'Amboine natives'. The voyages of James Cook did not visit New Guinea, but did include stops in nearby areas such as north-western Australia and islands in Indonesia. Artwork published in 1835.
