Space Transportation System (STS-8) crew at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. STS-8 was the eighth NASA Space Shuttle flight mission and third mission of the Space shuttle Challanger. There were five members in the crew: three mission specialists, a pilot and crew commander. The mission specialists were Dale A. Gardner (left), Guion S. Bluford (second left), and William E. Thornton (centre). Daniel C. Brandenstein was the pilot (second from right) and Richard F. Truly was the crew commander (right). Bluford was the first African-American astronaut. The main objective of the mission was to deploy the Insat-1B satellite for India. The mission launched on 30th August 1983 and finished on 5th September 1983.
