Plaza de Espa?a is one of the landmarks of the capital, in the square is the Alc?zar de Col?n Museum, while the Museum of the Royal Houses is on Calle Las Damas a short walk from the square. This esplanade is located on the eastern side of the colonial zone. A statue of Nicol?s de Ovando, founder of Santo Domingo, is here as a tribute to his achievements..
