Adult female (left) and young nymph (right) seabird (Ixodes uriae) ticks. Seabird ticks are parasitic arachnids that feed on seabirds such as penguins and migratory birds. They are found in both the southern and northern hemispheres. Unfed females measure up to 12 millimetres in length whilst unfed nymphs measure around 1 millimetre.
