Diabetic ulcer on the leg of a 67 year old woman with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus. Ulcers are a fairly common complication of diabetes as it can lead to neuropathy (nerve damage) and the breakdown of small blood vessels, both of which are risk factors for ulcers. Treatment is with antibiotics and regular cleansing of the wound.
