Coloured axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the brain of a 24 year old female patient with neurocysticercosis. This is an infection of the brain by larvae of the pork tapeworm (Taenia solium), which is transmitted through undercooked pork meat. The larvae form cysts (dark, round areas) in the brain and can cause serious side effects such as epilepsy. This patient presented with headaches and temperature spikes. Treatment is with antiparasitic drugs.
