Sculpture of the satyr Marsyas, 17th century. Flayed alive after losing a musical contest to the god Apollo, the satyr Marsyas is shown screaming in agony. This marble sculpture dates from the period 1680 to 1685, and was produced by German sculptor Balthasar Permoser (1651-1732).
