Food market during coronavirus outbreak in China, 2020. Market trader wearing a face-mask while handling shellfish at a seafood market in Shanghai, China, during the 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak. Known as the Wuhan coronavirus (after the city where it was first identified), this novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) causes a respiratory infection that can lead to fatal pneumonia. As of January 2020, thousands in China have been infected with over 100 deaths, leading to travel restrictions, infection control measures, and cancellation of public celebrations for Chinese New Year, to prevent the spread of the virus. It is thought that the virus transmission to humans may have occurred from live food markets. Photographed on 26 January 2020.
