Leonhart Fuchs (1501-1566), German botanist, in a woodcut by Veit Rudolph Speckle. Fuchs's work 'De Historia Stirpium' (1542) featured naturalistic drawings of plants and herbs. Fuchs is considered a founding father of the study of botany. This illustration is from 'New Kreuterbuch' (1563) by Fuchs.
