Ireland; Co. Kerry; Ring of Kerry: replica of beehive huts on island of Skellig Michael at Kerry Cliffs. Kerry Cliffs rise to a height of 305 m above sea level; are 400 million years old and guarantee a perfect view on Skellig Michael; the ancient monastery island c. 9 km off the shores of Kerry Cliffs and 12 km from Portmagee. The beehive huts of the Augustine monastery on island of Skellig Michael have been built in 7th century AD and were in use; until end of 12th century; starting 13th century; when the monks left for their new abbey in Ballinskelligs; south of Kerry Cliffs. The replica of three beehive huts (German: Bienenkorbh黷ten) from Skellig Michael have been built; as the remote island has become a major touristic spot; since Hollywood filmed parts of the blockbusters Star Wars episode VII and Star Wars episode VIII; on Sklellig Michael. As well; the beehive huts recall the time of the eremit (hermit) monks; living on the island.
