Ireland; Co. Kerry; Beara Peninsula: ruin of abbey church at Kilmakilloge Cemetery near Kilmakilloge Bay; legendary abbey of missionary St. Kilian (irish: Cillian). Legend wants that Kilmakilloge Bay near village of Tuosist on Beara Peninsula was the starting point of the 12 missionaries led by St Kilian to German area Franconia (German: Franken) in the Northern part of today`s Bavaria (German: Bayern). St. Kilian; irish Cillian; meaning "fighter; warrior"; was born in 640 AD in Cloughballybeg near Mullagh; County Cavan. He died in 689 AD by force on the market place of Franconian city of W黵zburg and became martyr and saint of the catholic church. As the annals of his life were written in 9th century; only;there is no real evidence of the legends. On his religious festive day; the 8th of July; each year; people of Tuosist follow the catholic procession through the village to Kilmakilloge Bay and Kilmakilloge Cemetery (irish: reilig Chill Mocheall骻) with ruin of St. Kilian`s abbey; to honor St. Kilian. In Franconia; he is knonw as "Missionar der Franken"; missionary of the Franconians. Kilmakilloge Bay now is a signature point at Wild Atlantic Way (WAW).
