'Quarles', (c1592-1644), 1830. Francis Quarles (c1592-1644) English poet educated at Christ's College, Cambridge and Lincoln's Inn. A Royalist during the Civil War he made pamphlets in support of the king. He had eighteen children and is most famous for book 'Emblems'. From "Biographical Illustrations", by Alfred Howard.
