The dwarf of the Duc de Guise, (19th century?). 'Nain Du Duc De Guise'. Portrait of a court performer in 16th century dress, holding a bird. People of short stature were sometimes employed as 'court dwarfs' by royalty and the nobility. They were owned and traded, and delivered as gifts to fellow nobles.
