Estonia; village of P鮨tsamaa: ruin of P鮨tsamaa Castle and renovated Lutheran Church of 1634. P鮨tsamaa Castle (Estonian P鮨tsamaa Lossi; German: Schlossburg Oberpahlen) was the only Royal castle in Estonian history. In 1570; Magnus (1540 - 1583); crown prince of Denmark and Norway and Earl of Holstein; as well as bishop of Oesel-Wieck; now Estonian island Saaremaa; got the rest of the state of the Teutonic order from tzar Ivan IV; called Ivan Grosny (ivan the terrible). Ivan IV made Magnus to King of Livonia (German: Livland) and gave him an army of 25 000 troops to conquer Reval (today: Tallinn) and to stop the Polish King. Magnus chose the Kuningam鋑i; German K鰊igsberg; in Oberpahlen; today Poltsamaa; as his residence. But in 1578; Ivan IV forced Magnus to flee to city of Riga. In 1234; a certain German monk Eggehard installed a first missionary station here. In those times; the place was called M鰄u; German Mochu: In 1272; German knight Otto von Rodenstein built a first castell in antique Roman oppidum style for the Teutonic order near the river which they called Pala. In this way; the castle got the name Oberpahlen; "above river Pala" In 1561; the knights of hte Teuotonic Order left. Im 1633 and 1634; Swedish Field marshall Hermann von Wrangell; who got the estate as a gift; built the Lutheran Church on the castle grounds; which was reoovated; 1990 onwards. Starting in 1750; Woldemar Johann von Lauw began to build the castle park and th castle lake. Hambuirg born Swedish Heinrich von Fick; a reformer; marreid his daughter Aurora and made Oberpahlen to the most prestigious example of a prosperous estate in Russia. In 1944; all was destroyed.
