'Paradise Lost' by Milton, 19th-century illustration. Adam and Eve being cast out of the Garden of Eden by the archangel Michael. This scene occurs towards the end of the epic poem 'Paradise Lost' (1667) by English poet and political writer John Milton (1608-1674). Milton is best known as the author of this celebrated work, which was followed by 'Paradise Regained' (1671). This artwork is from an 1850 French translation of 'Paradise Lost' by French author Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand.
