Aquamarine, named for the Latin phrase water of the sea, is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl. Beryl also contains other semi-precious gem varieties, including emerald, and some lesser known varieties such as morganite and heliodor. Aquamarine ranges in colour from a faint light blue to blue and bluish-green, with lighter coloured stones being most common. The small hexagonal crystals here displayed are from Nagar, in the Hunza Valley of Pakistan.
