'Captured German Trenches at Les Eparges', (1919). Allied troops with bodies of German soldiers at Les Eparges in northern France, scene from the First World War, 1914-1919. 'By a system of saps [covered trenches dug towards enemy positions] the German trenches were frequently mined, the craters formed by the upheaval being occupied and put into a state of defence and habitation.
