Apollo astronaut's bootprint on the Moon, illustration. These famous bootprints were left on the moon by the US astronauts that walked there. The bootprints are not subject to erosion, because the Moon is an airless world, and they may last for millions of years. This boot is from the A7LB spacesuit that was used in the last three Apollo missions to the Moon. A total of twelve US astronauts have walked on the Moon as part of NASA's Apollo missions. Neil Armstrong was the first, in 1969, and Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan were the last, in 1972.
