CAMBER CASTLE, Winchelsea, Rye, East Sussex. Camber Castle was built on the low-lying coastal dunes in around 1540 as part of Henry VIII's defensive scheme to counter invasion from the French and Spanish. It is now in the care of English Heritage. Photographed by Eric de Mare between 1945 and 1980.
