'Among the chief attractions of the town of Ningpo (Ningbo) is the Tien-how-kung (Tien-Hou-Gong), or 'Queen of Heaven' Temple, meeting place of the Fukien Guild. The pillars have no capitals [but] are furnished with ornamental brackets ... to throw the weight of the massive roofs down the centre of the shafts'. Thomson writes that the craftsmen's unions held meetings here.
