Staircase at Land's End House, Beggars Hill Road, Charvil, Berkshire, 5 March 1935. Millar & Harris cellulose nitrate negative. The photographers make superlative use of light and shade to create an expressionistic view of the staircase at Land's End House. The house was built in 1935 and designed by architect Guy Morgan for the aircraft manufacturer Frederick George Miles. A full-height window at the front of the house lit this curved rubber-clad staircase. Millar & Harris had been established in 1912 as Millar & Stone, and became Millar & Harris in 1924. The firm's extensive client base included architects such as Guy Morgan, estate agents Knight Frank & Rutley, and the construction company Mowlem.
