Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. One of the key features of Milton Keynes' urban layout is the distinctive grid pattern of its main transport routes. With main routes intersecting approximately every one kilometre, the grid pattern allowed planners to move away from congestion associated with traditional radial town plans. Initially roads were given numbers or letters which signified vertical (north-south) or horizontal (east-west) routes. All have since been named. Photographed in February 2000.
