Chu Chin Chow by Oscar Asche with music by Frederick Norton based on the story of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. It was first produced at His Majesty?s Theatre in London on 3rd August 1916. It ran for a total of 2,238 performances (more than twice as many as any previous musical). This record stood for nearly 40 years. Oscar Asche (26 January 1871 ? 23 March 1936), who was the star as well as the author, is shown as Abu Hassan, disguised as Chu Chin Chow.
