A representation in sand (entitled 'Dead Beat') of Dr William Brydon - the sole survivor of the British Retreat from Kabul, Afghanistan in 1842 during the First Anglo-Afghan War - created on Bournemouth Beach by an Artist working under the title 'Novelty in Sand'. The sand sculpture is also accompanied by the sign '2 Days Perseverance'. and a flag signifying the creations were patronised by HRH Princess Beatrice of Battenberg.
