Lt George Schack-Sommer, Londoner and old Etonian, awarded the St George's Cross for valour, the Russian equivalent of the Victoria Cross, for gallant conduct while fighting with the Artisky Hussars in the Dukla Pass, Carpathians, during an engagement in spring 1915, in the First World War.
