WW1 - Lieutenant Reginald Alexander John Warneford, VC (1891 - 1915) was a Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) officer. On 17th June 1915, Warneford travelled to the aerodrome at Buc in order to ferry an aircraft for delivery to the RNAS at Veurne. On his second test flight, he carried the American journalist, Henry Beach Newman as passenger. The righthand wings unfortunately collapsed which lead to the plane's fall. Neither occupant were harnessed. Seen here falling from the aircraft, Newman's death was instantaneous, and Warneford died of his injuries on the way to hospital.
