An ambulance, bearing wounded soldiers (cot cases) making its way along Fleet Street up Ludgate Hill to a hospital in East London. During the First World War, ambulance trains arrived daily at the termini of the South Coast railways and the occupants were distributed to the numerous military hospitals around London. As well as meeting trains at Charing Cross, Waterloo, Clapham Junction and elsewhere as required, it undertook removal cases from one hospital to another and to convalescent homes in the country.
