Damn(p)-Proof! Almost as comfortable as a gas-helmet! The new trench suit for a wet Christmas at the Front. The trenches could be far more than damp. They could be completely waterlogged. Sometimes, soldiers found themselves waist-deep in water, usually due to atrocious weather. The soft ground of Belgium resulted in trenches collapsing in places during wet periods, and the task of draining and repairs, under the Royal Engineers, might take hundreds of men and seem endless. Studdy's all-in-one waterproof suit may turn his soldiers into rather forlorn-looking primeval mutants, but would probably have been preferable to the khaki uniform and, worse, to goatskin coats, which only made the wearer more uncomfortable and less agile once wet.
