Commissioned by Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) and erected in October 1996 to mark 50 years since the founding of the Party, the hammer (left) and sickle (right) represent the triumph of the workers and peasants, while the brush (centre) symbolises the success of intellectuals and professionals. The monument is 50 metres high.
