Tsar Alexander II of Russia (1818 - 1881) pictured with his youngest child, Grand Prince Pavel (1860 - 1919). The Tsar and his brothers were relatively hands-on fathers and took an active interest in childbirth, infancy and the business of the nursery. After Pavel's birth, the Tsaritsa Maria Alexandrovna's health showed signs of serious decline (she had tuberculosis) and he was to be her last child.
