View of Finlyandsky (Finland) Station, St Petersburg, Russia, serving northern destinations including Helsinki and Vyborg. The station opened in 1870. It is best remembered for the arrival of Vladimir Lenin by train from Germany on 3 April 1917 to start the October Revolution, commemorated by the Soviet statue of Lenin dominating the square in front of the station (later than this postcard). The old station building was demolished in the 1950s and a new one was built; however, a portico was preserved from the original edifice.
