View of the Transfiguration Cathedral (Preobrazhensky Cathedral), on Transfiguration Square, St Petersburg, Russia. An Eastern Orthodox cathedral, it was built from 1743 to 1754. A fire in 1825 destroyed much of the building, and reconstruction took place between 1825 and 1829. Further restoration work was carried out between 1946 and 1948. Unlike most Russian churches, it has never been closed for worship.
