Engraving showing the 24 hour Bicycle race at Herne Hill velodrome, underway on the 22nd July 1892. The race was won by F.W. Shorland (centre in image) who rode a 'geared ordinary' (or 'penny farthing') to achieve a distance of 413 miles. J.M. James (on the right of the image, in white shirt) came second with a distance of 407 miles.
