A design by the Futurist artist, Leon Bakst, expressing the 'spring time of the earth', 1913. Bakst designed dresses and scenery for the Russian ballet at this time. When creating the costumes for Debussy's ballet, 'Les Jeux,' Bakst tried to express the ideas of the future. He recognised the importance of freedom of movement in womenswear.
