European Greater FLAMINGO - single bird in flight (Phoenicopterus ruber). La Camargue, France. Nests on island in saline flat. Foraging birds walk in shallow water with heads down swinging bills side to side. Feeds on aquatic invertebrates which they filter with their specialized beaks. Immatures are whitish gradually acquiring the pink color of the adult.
