HALE'S TOURS A film showing on a screen at the end of a space mocked-up to give the impression of a railway carriage. Films were shown which had been taken by a camera on the front of a railway engine or tramcar. Sound effects were included to enhance the illusion and in some reports the 'carriage' rocked. In London, the tours were located at 165, Oxford Street. A 1908 report says 'In the journey through Rome, one could readily believe we were on a tramcar; the rumbling of the wheels, the clanging of the bell to clear the traffic, the motion of the vehicle when rounding corners and the other effects were well-timed, free from axaggeration and as natural as one could desire'.
