Home Reef, a new island in Tonga, satellite image. North is at top. The new island (lower left) formed in mid 2006 through the eruptions of the previously submarine volcano Home Reef. In this combined infrared and visible light image, vegetation on the nearby Late island is red, clouds are white, deep water is dark blue, water mixed with volcanic sediment is light blue and the new land is grey. The image was taken by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on the Terra Earth observation satellite on October 4, 2006.
