On Space Shuttle mission STS-41B, Feb. 1984, the Canadarm was used as a platform for spacewalk work by astronaut Bruce McCandless II. The Canadarm was developed and built by SPAR Aerospace Ltd., a Canadian company. The Canadarm was first used on STS-2 in 1981, on board Columbia, and was used on over 50 missions. The system was retired after July 2011 after STS-135.
