This starry view from the Chajnantor plateau in Chile, at an altitude of 5000 meters, shows the antennas of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) illuminated by moonlight. ALMA is known as the most complex ground-based astronomical project of this decade. It will eventually consist of 66 antennas operating together as a single giant telescope. From left to right, planet Jupiter, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, and the Milky Way - despite the moon - can be seen in the sky.
