An experiment investigating the hatching success of Diamondback terrapins, (Malaclemys terrapin); Avalon, New Jersey. The project, run by The Wetlands Institute, aims to discover the most effective substrate for terrapin egg hatching - the quadrants each hold a different mixture of sand and dredge material. The enclosures cover terrapin nests. Terrapins are listed as endangered or threatened by many states along the U.S. Atlantic coast.
