Phototropism is a directional plant response to light. Plant shoots (stems) exhibit positive phototropism by growing towards a light source. This bean, Phaseolus vulgaris, seedling is bending towards the lamp because auxin hormones released into the far (dark) side of the stem causes elongation on that side. Image 1 of 2. See BG1097 for the second image in the sequence. Note: image has been digitally manipulated.
