A Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus canadensis nelsoni) wearing a radio collar, part of a reintroduction effort organized by hunters and conservationists in the Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina. Elk were reintroduced in the states of Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee; they migrated into the neighboring states of Virginia and West Virginia, and have established permanent populations there.
