Professor Jay Georgi with his dog, Jake. As Professor Emeritus at Cornell University, Georgi developed an "Artificial Dog," as a method of breeding fleas for scientific research. This invention replaces infected laboratory dogs and other animals formerly used as flea sources. Fleas are used in the study of transmissible diseases, allergies, and in the development of insecticides.
