Fresnel lens in Aransas Pass Light Station, an historic lighthouse overlooking the Texas Coast at Aransas Pass, Texas. Invented by French physicist Augustin-Jean Fresnel, the lens is much thinner than a conventional lens, which allows for a large aperture and short focal length at a lower weight.
