The sun, reddened by smoke from a nearby forest fire, shines through the storm-blasted remains of a Whitebark Pine on the rim of Oregon's Crater Lake. The species is threatened by the Western Pine Beetle whose numbers have exploded in many western locales due to mild winters attributed to climate change.
